San Miguel County is a county located in the United States of Colorado. In 2000, the population was 6594. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 7552, It is 20th least populous county in Colorado. It is spread over 1288.49 mi˛ (3337.17 square kilometre), of which, 1286.5 square miles (3332.02 square kilometre ) of it is land and 1.98 square miles (5.13 square kilometre) of it is water, making it Colorado's 36th largest county by total area.

As of the census of 2000, there were 6594 people, 3015 households, and 1424 families living in the county. The population density was 5.1 people per square mile (1.97/km˛), it is 41st most densely populated county in Colorado. There were 5197 housing units at an average density of 4 per square mile (1.54/km˛). It has an average household size was 2.18 persons, and the average family size was 2.77 persons. Age range in the county was well distributed with 17.6% under the age of 18, 9.9% from 18 to 24, 43.3% from 25 to 44, 25.8% from 45 to 64, and 3.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 120.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 126.4 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 7552, The racial makeup of the county was 7304 White, 21 Black or African American, 67 American Indian, 67 Asian, 6 Native Hawaiian, and 87 from two or more races.
