San Juan County, New Mexico is a county of the United States of New Mexico. The county has a population of 113801 as per the 2000 census data. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 122500, It is New Mexico's fourth most populous county. The county extends throughout a territory of 5538.36 square miles (14344.29 sq km ), of which, 5514.02 square miles (14281.25 sq km) of it is land and 24.35 square miles (63.07 sq km) of it is water, making it the sixth largest by size in New Mexico. It is ranks third in the size of its inland waterways in New Mexico.

As of the census of 2000, there were 113801 people in the county, organized into 37711 households, and 28930 families living in the county. The population density was 20.6 people per square mile (7.95/kmē), it is New Mexico's eighth most densely populated county. There were 43221 housing units at an average density of 7.8 per square mile (3.01/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.99 persons, and the average family size was 3.43 persons. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 32.6% under the age of 18, 10% from 18 to 24, 28.1% from 25 to 44, 20.2% from 45 to 64, and 9.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 98.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.7 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 122500, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 59.09% White, 1.43% Black or African American, 37.03% American Indian, 0.47% Asian, 0.07% Native Hawaiian, and 1.92% from two or more races.
