San Juan County, Colorado is a county of the United States of Colorado. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 558 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 552, giving it the smallest population among Colorado's county. Its area is just over 388.29 sq mi (1005.67 square kilometre), of which, 387.42 square miles (1003.41 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.86 square miles (2.23 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the fourth smallest in terms of geographical size.

As of the census of 2000, there were 558 residents, 269 households, and 158 families in the county. The population density was 1.4 people per square mile (0.54/kmē), it is sixth least densely populated county in Colorado. There were 632 housing units at an average density of 1.6 per square mile (0.62/kmē). The average household size was 2.06 persons, and the average family size was 2.63 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 20.1% under the age of 18, 4.3% from 18 to 24, 28.1% from 25 to 44, 40.5% from 45 to 64, and 7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 110.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 112.4 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 552, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 97.64% White, 0% Black or African American, 1.27% American Indian, 0.36% Asian, 0.54% Native Hawaiian, and 0.18% from two or more races.
