As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 672388, It is the 15th most populous county in the U.S. state of California. The county spans an area of 1426.25 miē (3693.97 kmē), of which, 1399.28 square miles (3624.12 kmē) of it is land and 26.97 square miles (69.85 kmē) of it is water, giving it the 33rd largest by total area among California's county.
