Saluda County is a one of the county from South Carolina's 46 counties, located in Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. The population of county in 2000 stood at 19181 as per the Census data. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 18625, making it the fifth least populous county in South Carolina. Its area is just over 461.78 sq mi (1196 sq km), of which, 452.48 square miles (1171.92 sq km) of it is land and 9.3 square miles (24.09 sq km) of it is water, it is the eighth smallest in terms of geographical size.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 19181 people, 7127 households, and 5295 families living in the county. The population density was 42.4 people per square mile (16.37/kmē), it is South Carolina's ninth least densely populated county. There were 8543 housing units at an average density of 18.9 per square mile (7.3/kmē). The average household size was 2.65 persons, and the average family size was 3.07 persons. In the county Age distribution was 24.9% under the age of 18, 9.2% from 18 to 24, 27.6% from 25 to 44, 23.8% from 45 to 64, and 14.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 98.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.3 males. The July 2008 population estimate is 18625, The racial makeup of the county was 70.81% White, 28.13% Black or African American, 0.26% American Indian, 0.11% Asian, 0.14% Native Hawaiian, and 0.55% from two or more races.
