Salt Lake County is a county located in the United States of Utah. The population of the county was 898387 as per the 2000 census data. Its population was estimated at 1022651 in July 2008, It is the most populous county in the U.S. state of Utah. The county comprises an area of 807.78 sq mi (2092.14 sq km), of which, 737.38 square miles (1909.81 sq km) of it is land and 70.4 square miles (182.34 sq km) of it is water, making it Utah's sixth smallest county by total area. It is ranks ninth in the size of its inland waterways in Utah.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 898387 people, 295141 households, and 214102 families residing in the county. The population density was 1218.4 people per square mile (470.43/kmē), it is the most populated county in terms of population density. There were 310988 housing units at an average density of 421.7 per square mile (162.82/kmē). The average household size was 3 persons, and the average family size was 3.53 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 30.5% under the age of 18, 12.9% from 18 to 24, 30.6% from 25 to 44, 18% from 45 to 64, and 8.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 101.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.7 males. The July 2008 population estimate is 1022651, The racial makeup of the county was 928081 White, 18564 Black or African American, 10951 American Indian, 31326 Asian, 14325 Native Hawaiian, and 19404 from two or more races.
