Salmon City is a United States city located in the Lemhi County, Idaho, United States. In 2000, city's population was 3122 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 2986, It is the 42nd most populous in the U.S. state of Idaho. The city has a total area of 1.78 miē (4.61 kmē), of which, 1.72 square miles (4.45 kmē) of it is land and 0.05 square miles (0.13 kmē) of it is water, making it Idaho's 59th largest by total area.

As of the census of 2000, there were 3122 people, 1369 households, and 829 families residing in the city. The population density was 1813.2 people per square mile (700.08/kmē), it is 56th most densely populated city in Idaho. There were 1576 housing units at an average density of 916.3 per square mile (353.79/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.26 persons, and the average family size was 2.93 persons.
