Salem City, Massachusetts is a city of the Essex County, Massachusetts, United States. Salem City had an official population of 40407 in 2000. The city's estimated population as of July 2008 was 41256, It is 31st most populous in Massachusetts. The city has a total area of 18.06 square miles (46.78 square kilometre), of which, 8.1 square miles (20.98 square kilometre) of it is land and 9.95 square miles (25.77 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 32nd largest in terms of geographical size. It is ranks eighth in the size of its inland waterways in Massachusetts.
