Salem City is a one of the Marion County, Illinois, located in Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 7909. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 7446, It is 241st most populous in Illinois. The city encompasses an area of 6.26 square miles (16.21 square kilometre ), of which, 6.1 square miles (15.8 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.16 square miles (0.41 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 167th largest by area in the U.S. state of Illinois.
