Saguache County is a United States county located in the United States of Colorado. Saguache County had an official population of 5917 in 2000. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 7058, It is the 19th smallest in terms of population. Its area is just over 3170.25 mi˛ (8210.91 square kilometre), of which, 3168.44 square miles (8206.22 square kilometre) of it is land and 1.82 square miles (4.71 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the seventh largest by area in the U.S. state of Colorado.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 5917 residents, 2300 households, and 1556 families in the county. The population density was 1.9 people per square mile (0.73/km˛), it is the tenth least densely populated county in the U.S. state of Colorado. There were 3087 housing units at an average density of 1 per square mile (0.39/km˛). It has an average household size was 2.56 persons, and the average family size was 3.15 persons. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 28.4% under the age of 18, 7.9% from 18 to 24, 26% from 25 to 44, 26.9% from 45 to 64, and 10.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 101.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.7 males. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 7058, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 95.71% White, 0.16% Black or African American, 2.28% American Indian, 0.47% Asian, 0.06% Native Hawaiian, and 1.33% from two or more races.
