Rush County is a county located in Kansas, in the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. The county has a population of 3551 as per the 2000 census data. In July 2008, its estimated population was 3232, making it the 25th least populous county in Kansas. The county extends throughout a territory of 718.42 square miles (1860.7 sq km ), of which, 718.21 square miles (1860.16 sq km) of it is land and 0.21 square miles (0.54 sq km) of it is water, makes it the 67th largest by total area in Kansas.

The population density was 4.9 people per square mile (1.89/kmē), it would be the 25th least densely populated county in the U.S. state of Kansas. There were 1928 housing units at an average density of 2.7 per square mile (1.04/kmē). The average household size was 2.24 people, and the average family size was 2.8 people. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 22.1% under the age of 18, 5.5% from 18 to 24, 22.9% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 25.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 94.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.6 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 3232, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 3172 White, 12 Black or African American, 18 American Indian, 6 Asian, 0 Native Hawaiian, and 24 from two or more races.
