Routt County is one of the 63 county of Colorado, located towards the Western Region (Mountain) of United States. According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Routt County is home to 19690 inhabitants. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 22980, making it the 22nd most populous county in Colorado. Its area is just over 2368.02 mi˛ (6133.14 sq km), of which, 2361.59 square miles (6116.49 sq km) of it is land and 6.43 square miles (16.65 sq km) of it is water, it is the 15th largest by area in the U.S. state of Colorado.

As of the census of 2000, there were 19690 residents, 7953 households, and 4778 families in the county. The population density was 8.3 people per square mile (3.2/km˛), it is the 33rd most populated county in terms of population density. There were 11217 housing units at an average density of 4.7 per square mile (1.81/km˛). It has an average household size was 2.44 persons, and the average family size was 2.92 persons. The population's age distribution was 22.6% under the age of 18, 10.1% from 18 to 24, 36.5% from 25 to 44, 25.7% from 45 to 64, and 5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 116.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 119.4 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 22980, The racial makeup of the county was 22315 White, 128 Black or African American, 112 American Indian, 160 Asian, 18 Native Hawaiian, and 247 from two or more races.
