It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 16748, giving it the 289th largest population among Illinois. The city has a total area of 3.58 mi˛ (9.27 square kilometre), of which, 3.52 square miles (9.12 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.06 square miles (0.16 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 303rd largest in terms of geographical size.
