As of July 2008, the estimated population of the city is 46198, It is the fifth most populous in the U.S. state of New Mexico. The city spans an area of 28.96 square miles (75.01 square kilometre), of which, 28.94 square miles (74.95 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.02 square miles (0.05 square kilometre) of it is water, giving it the 11th largest by total area among New Mexico.
