As of July 2008, the estimated population was 46782, giving it the 30th largest population among Michigan. The city spans an area of 9.83 sq mi (25.46 square kilometre), of which, 9.81 square miles (25.41 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.02 square miles (0.05 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 65th largest by area in the U.S. state of Michigan.
