Rockland County, New York is a county of the United States of New York. Rockland County had an official population of 286753 in 2000. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 298545, giving it the 13th largest population among New York's county. The county extends throughout a territory of 199.34 sq mi (516.29 sq km ), of which, 174.22 square miles (451.23 sq km) of it is land and 25.12 square miles (65.06 sq km) of it is water, it is the sixth smallest by area in the U.S. state of New York.

As of the census of 2000, there were 286753 people, 92675 households, and 70944 families residing in the county. The population density was 1645.9 people per square mile (635.49/kmē), making it the eighth most densely populated county in New York. There were 94973 housing units at an average density of 545.1 per square mile (210.46/kmē). The average household size was 3.01 persons, and the average family size was 3.47 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 28% under the age of 18, 7.9% from 18 to 24, 28% from 25 to 44, 24.3% from 45 to 64, and 11.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 105 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 109.6 females. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 298545, The racial makeup of the county was 80.34% White, 11.43% Black or African American, 0.36% American Indian, 6.32% Asian, 0.16% Native Hawaiian, and 1.39% from two or more races.
