Rockland City is a city in the Knox County, Maine, United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 7609 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 7436, It is Maine's 21st largest by population . According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 15.1 square miles (39.11 kmē), of which, 12.91 square miles (33.44 kmē) of it is land and 2.19 square miles (5.67 kmē) of it is water, it is the 19th largest by area in the U.S. state of Maine. It is ranks 14 in the size of its inland waterways in Maine.

As of the census of 2000, there were 7609 people in the city, organized into 3434 households, and 1945 families residing in the city. The population density was 589.2 people per square mile (227.49/kmē), giving it the 52nd most densely populated city among the Maine. There were 3752 housing units at an average density of 290.6 per square mile (112.2/kmē). The average household size was 2.15 and the average family size was 2.78.
