Rockaway Borough is a one of the Morris County, New Jersey, located in Northeastern Region (Mid-Atlantic) of United States. The borough has a population of 6473 as per the 2000 census data. The July 2008 population estimate is 6263, It is the 247th most populous in the U.S. state of New Jersey. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 2.11 mi˛ (5.46 square kilometre), of which, 2.09 square miles (5.41 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.02 square miles (0.05 square kilometre) of it is water, giving it the 282nd largest by total area among New Jersey.

As of the census of 2000, there were 6473 people, 457 households, and 284 families living in the borough. The population density was 3098.9 people per square mile (1196.49/km˛), it is 231st most densely populated borough in New Jersey. There were 2491 housing units at an average density of 1191.9 per square mile (460.2/km˛). The average household size was 2.64 people, and the average family size was 3.16 people. In the borough Age distribution was 23.3% under the age of 18, 6.6% from 18 to 24, 33.6% from 25 to 44, 24.7% from 45 to 64, and 11.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 94.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.4 males. The median age was 37.8 years, The median age of males was 36.6 years, for females the median age was 39.3 years.
