Rock Island City is a one of the Rock Island County, Illinois, located in Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. Rock Island City had an official population of 39684 in 2000. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the city is 38139, making it Illinois's 39th largest. The city extends throughout a territory of 17.15 square miles (44.42 sq km ), of which, 15.92 square miles (41.23 sq km) of it is land and 1.22 square miles (3.16 sq km) of it is water, it is the 21st largest by area in the U.S. state of Illinois. It is ranks 14 in the size of its inland waterways in Illinois.
