Rock Hill City is a city located in the York County, South Carolina, United States. In 2000, the population was 49765. The city's estimated population as of July 2008 was 67339, giving it the fifth largest population among South Carolina. The city extends throughout a territory of 31.06 square miles (80.45 square kilometre ), of which, 31.03 square miles (80.37 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.03 square miles (0.08 square kilometre) of it is water, making it South Carolina's eighth largest by total area.

As of the census of 2000, there were 49765 people, 18750 households, and 12100 families residing in the city. The population density was 1603.8 people per square mile (619.23/kmē), making its South Carolina's 45th most densely populated city. There were 20287 housing units at an average density of 653.8 per square mile (252.43/kmē). The average household size was 2.49 people, and the average family size was 3.05 people. In the city the population is diverse age-wise, with 25.1% under the age of 18, 14.8% from 18 to 24, 30.5% from 25 to 44, 18.4% from 45 to 64, and 11.3% who were 65 or older.
