River Rouge City is a city located in the Wayne County, Michigan, United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 9917 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 8449, It is 117th most populous in Michigan. The city has a total area of 3.41 square miles (8.83 square kilometre), of which, 2.67 square miles (6.92 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.74 square miles (1.92 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 221st largest in terms of geographical size.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 9917 people, 3640 households, and 2503 families residing in the city. The population density was 3713.9 people per square mile (1433.94/kmē), it would be the 49th most densely populated city in the U.S. state of Michigan. In the city the population was spread out, with 31.2% under the age of 18, 10.2% from 18 to 24, 29.2% from 25 to 44, 18.8% from 45 to 64, and 10.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 111.8 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 119 females. The median age was 31 years, The median age of males and females living in River Rouge City was 29.7 and 32.2 years respectively. The racial makeup of the city was 5214 White, 4166 Black or African American, 77 American Indian, 16 Asian, 4 Native Hawaiian, 278 from two or more races and 162 Ohter races.
