River Edge Borough is a borough in the Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The population of the borough was 10946 as per the 2000 census data. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 10674, It is the 149th largest by population in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The borough encompasses an area of 1.9 square miles (4.92 sq km ), of which, 1.89 square miles (4.9 sq km) of it is land and 0.02 square miles (0.05 sq km) of it is water, it is the 304th largest in terms of geographical size.

As of the census of 2000, there were 10946 residents, 457 households, and 284 families in the borough. The population density was 5804.5 people per square mile (2241.13/kmē), giving it the 90th most densely populated borough among the New Jersey. There were 4210 housing units at an average density of 2227.5 per square mile (860.04/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.62 persons, and the average family size was 3.11 persons. In the borough the population was distributed as follows: 24.1% under the age of 18, 5% from 18 to 24, 30.2% from 25 to 44, 23.8% from 45 to 64, and 17% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 90.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.7 males. The median age of the borough's population was 40 years, The median age of males was 38.8 years, for females the median age was 41.3 years. The racial or ethnic makeup of the borough was 9208 White, 116 Black or African American, 9 American Indian, 1379 Asian, 1 Native Hawaiian, 144 from two or more races and 89 Ohter races.
