Ripley County is one of the 92 county of Indiana, located towards the Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. It is home to over 26523 people (2000 census). As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 27400, It is the 58th largest county by population in the U.S. state of Indiana. It has total area of 447.91 square miles (1160.08 kmē), of which, 446.36 square miles (1156.07 kmē) of it is land and 1.55 square miles (4.01 kmē) of it is water, it is the 25th largest by area in the U.S. state of Indiana.

The population density was 59.4 people per square mile (22.93/kmē), it is the 26th least densely populated county in the U.S. state of Indiana. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 28.1% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 28.9% from 25 to 44, 22% from 45 to 64, and 13.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94 males.
