Rio Rancho City is a United States city located in the Sandoval and Bernalillo counties, New Mexico, United States. It is home to over 51765 people (2000 census). Its population was estimated at 79655 in July 2008, making it New Mexico's fourth largest. It has total area of 73.5 mi˛ (190.36 sq km), of which, 73.42 square miles (190.16 sq km) of it is land and 0.08 square miles (0.21 sq km) of it is water, making it New Mexico's second largest by total area.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 51765 people, 457 households, and 284 families residing in the city. The population density was 705 people per square mile (272.2/km˛), it is the 66th most populated city in terms of population density. The median age was 35.1 years, the median age of male residents at 33.8 and the median age of female residents at 36.1. The racial makeup of the city was 78.36% White, 2.66% Black or African American, 2.37% American Indian, 1.46% Asian, 0.17% Native Hawaiian, 4.12% from two or more races and 10.85% Other races.
