Rio Blanco County is a United States county located in the United States of Colorado. The county has a population of 5986 as per the 2000 census data. Its population was estimated at 6340 in July 2008, It is the 18th least populous county in the U.S. state of Colorado. The county has a total area of 3222.91 square miles (8347.3 sq km), of which, 3220.97 square miles (8342.27 sq km) of it is land and 1.94 square miles (5.02 sq km) of it is water, it is the sixth largest by area in the U.S. state of Colorado.

As of the census of 2000, there were 5986 people in the county, organized into 2306 households, and 1646 families residing in the county. The population density was 1.9 people per square mile (0.73/kmē), making its Colorado's ninth least densely populated county. There were 2855 housing units at an average density of 0.9 per square mile (0.35/kmē). The average household size was 2.5 and the average family size was 2.98. In the county Population was distributed with 26.5% under the age of 18, 9.2% from 18 to 24, 27.5% from 25 to 44, 25.6% from 45 to 64, and 11.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 101.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 101.6 males. The July 2008 population estimate is 6340, The racial makeup of the county was 6126 White, 29 Black or African American, 75 American Indian, 23 Asian, 0 Native Hawaiian, and 87 from two or more races.
