Ringgold County is a United States county located in the United States of Iowa. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 5469 inhabitants. Its population was estimated at 5156 in July 2008, making it Iowa's second smallest county. The county has a total area of 538.92 sq mi (1395.8 sq km), of which, 537.67 square miles (1392.56 sq km) of it is land and 1.26 square miles (3.26 sq km) of it is water, giving it the 62nd largest by total area among Iowa's county.

The population density was 10.2 people per square mile (3.94/kmē), it would be the least densely populated county in the U.S. state of Iowa. There were 2789 housing units at an average density of 5.2 per square mile (2.01/kmē). The average household size was 2.37 persons, and the average family size was 2.9 persons. In the county Age distribution was 24% under the age of 18, 6.9% from 18 to 24, 21.4% from 25 to 44, 23.6% from 45 to 64, and 24% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 106.2 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 111.8 females. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 5156, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 98.97% White, 0.12% Black or African American, 0.23% American Indian, 0.33% Asian, 0% Native Hawaiian, and 0.35% from two or more races.
