Richland County is a county located in the United States of Wisconsin. As of 2000 the population was 17924. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 17982, making it Wisconsin's 17th smallest county. The county comprises an area of 589.38 mi˛ (1526.49 square kilometre), of which, 586.2 square miles (1518.25 square kilometre) of it is land and 3.18 square miles (8.24 square kilometre) of it is water, making it the 14th smallest by size in Wisconsin.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 17924 people, 7118 households, and 4833 families residing in the county. The population density was 30.6 people per square mile (11.81/km˛), giving it the 22nd least densely populated county among the Wisconsin. There were 8164 housing units at an average density of 13.9 per square mile (5.37/km˛). It has an average household size was 2.48 persons, and the average family size was 3.01 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 25.2% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 25.5% from 25 to 44, 23.7% from 45 to 64, and 17.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 101.8 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 105.3 females. Its population was estimated at 17982 in July 2008, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 98.08% White, 0.48% Black or African American, 0.29% American Indian, 0.27% Asian, 0.03% Native Hawaiian, and 0.85% from two or more races.
