Richland County is a United States county located in the United States of Montana. As of 2000 the population was 9667. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 9270, It is 21st most populous county in Montana. It is spread over 2103.02 mi˛ (5446.8 square kilometre), of which, 2084.09 square miles (5397.77 square kilometre ) of it is land and 18.93 square miles (49.03 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 32nd largest by area in the U.S. state of Montana.

As of the census of 2000, there were 9667 people in the county, organized into 3878 households, and 2653 families living in the county. The population density was 4.6 people per square mile (1.78/km˛), it is 17th most densely populated county in Montana. There were 4557 housing units at an average density of 2.2 per square mile (0.85/km˛). It has an average household size was 2.46 persons, and the average family size was 3.04 persons. Age range in the county was well distributed with 27.5% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 26.8% from 25 to 44, 23.8% from 45 to 64, and 15.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 98.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.9 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 9270, The racial makeup of the county was 8970 White, 10 Black or African American, 177 American Indian, 17 Asian, 1 Native Hawaiian, and 95 from two or more races.
