Rensselaer County is a county in the United States of New York. The population of the county was 152538 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 155261, It is the 21st largest in terms of population. It covers total area of 665.39 square miles (1723.35 square kilometre), of which, 653.96 square miles (1693.75 square kilometre) of it is land and 11.43 square miles (29.6 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 34th largest by area in the U.S. state of New York.

For every 100 females there were 95.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.7 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 155261, The racial makeup of the county was 139416 White, 9473 Black or African American, 401 American Indian, 3697 Asian, 42 Native Hawaiian, and 2232 from two or more races.
