Redfield City is a city located in Spink County, South Dakota, in the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 2897 inhabitants. The July 2008 population estimate is 2273, making it the 26th most populous in South Dakota. The city extends throughout a territory of 1.76 miē (4.56 kmē ), of which, 1.73 square miles (4.48 kmē) of it is land and 0.03 square miles (0.08 kmē) of it is water, it is the 70th largest by area in the U.S. state of South Dakota.

As of the census of 2000, there were 2897 people in the city, organized into 1123 households, and 657 families residing in the city. The population density was 1670.3 people per square mile (644.91/kmē), making its South Dakota's 22nd most densely populated city. There were 1261 housing units at an average density of 728.9 per square mile (281.43/kmē). The average household size was 2.15 persons, and the average family size was 2.87 persons. In the city the population was spread out, with 21.3% under the age of 18, 7.8% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 20% from 45 to 64, and 23.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 93.6 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 96 females. The median age of the city's population was 40.9 years, the median age of male residents at 37.3 and the median age of female residents at 45.1. The racial or ethnic makeup of the city was 2763 White, 12 Black or African American, 87 American Indian, 3 Asian, 1 Native Hawaiian, 25 from two or more races and 6 Ohter races.
