Red Wing City is a United States city located in the Goodhue County, Minnesota, United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 16116 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 15687, It is the 60th largest by population in the U.S. state of Minnesota. It is spread over 41.37 sq mi (107.15 sq km), of which, 35.39 square miles (91.66 sq km ) of it is land and 5.97 square miles (15.46 sq km) of it is water, it is the 12th largest by area in the U.S. state of Minnesota. It is ranks tenth in the size of its inland waterways in Minnesota.

As of the census of 2000, there were 16116 people, 6562 households, and 4169 families living in the city. The population density was 455.3 people per square mile (175.79/kmē), it is Minnesota's 525th most densely populated city. There were 6867 housing units at an average density of 194 per square mile (74.9/kmē). The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.94. The racial or ethnic makeup of the city was 94.33% White, 1.32% Black or African American, 2.22% American Indian, 0.74% Asian, 0.05% Native Hawaiian, 0.82% from two or more races and 0.53% Other races.
