Rawlins County is a United States county located in the United States of Kansas. In 2000, county's population was 2966 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 2503, making it Kansas's ninth smallest county. The county spans an area of 1069.72 mi˛ (2770.56 sq km), of which, 1069.62 square miles (2770.3 sq km) of it is land and 0.11 square miles (0.28 sq km) of it is water, it is the 13th largest in terms of geographical size.

The population density was 2.8 people per square mile (1.08/km˛), it is eighth least densely populated county in Kansas. There were 1565 housing units at an average density of 1.5 per square mile (0.58/km˛). The average household size was 2.29 people, and the average family size was 2.88 people. In the county Age distribution was 24% under the age of 18, 3.8% from 18 to 24, 21.5% from 25 to 44, 25.1% from 45 to 64, and 25.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 99.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.1 males. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 2503, The racial makeup of the county was 2462 White, 9 Black or African American, 12 American Indian, 1 Asian, 0 Native Hawaiian, and 19 from two or more races.
