Rappahannock County is a United States county located in the United States of Virginia. The county has a population of 6983 as per the 2000 census data. The July 2008 population estimate is 7158, It is 15th least populous county in Virginia. The county encompasses an area of 266.83 sq mi (691.09 square kilometre ), of which, 266.57 square miles (690.41 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.26 square miles (0.67 square kilometre) of it is water, makes it the 81st largest by total area in Virginia.

The population density was 26.2 people per square mile (10.12/kmē), making it the eighth least densely populated county in Virginia. There were 3303 housing units at an average density of 12.4 per square mile (4.79/kmē). The average household size was 2.5 and the average family size was 2.94. In the county Age distribution was 22.3% under the age of 18, 5.6% from 18 to 24, 26.4% from 25 to 44, 31.8% from 45 to 64, and 13.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 101.2 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 102.8 females. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 7158, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 6616 White, 403 Black or African American, 15 American Indian, 19 Asian, 0 Native Hawaiian, and 105 from two or more races.
