It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 133131, It is ninth most populous parish in Louisiana. It has total area of 1361.96 mi˛ (3527.46 square kilometre), of which, 1322.54 square miles (3425.36 square kilometre) of it is land and 39.42 square miles (102.1 square kilometre) of it is water, making it Louisiana's seventh largest parish by total area.
