Queens County is a county in the United States of New York. The population of county in 2000 stood at 2229379 as per the Census data. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 2293007, making it the second most populous county in New York. It covers total area of 178.28 sq mi (461.74 square kilometre), of which, 109.24 square miles (282.93 square kilometre) of it is land and 69.04 square miles (178.81 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the fifth smallest in terms of geographical size.


According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 2229379 people, 782664 households, and 537991 families living in the county. The population density was 20409 people per square mile (7879.96/kmē), it is New York's fourth most densely populated county. There were 817250 housing units at an average density of 7481.6 per square mile (2888.66/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.81 persons, and the average family size was 3.39 persons. In the county Age distribution was 22.8% under the age of 18, 9.6% from 18 to 24, 33.1% from 25 to 44, 21.7% from 45 to 64, and 12.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 92.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.6 males. The July 2008 population estimate is 2293007, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 55.01% White, 20.18% Black or African American, 0.73% American Indian, 21.87% Asian, 0.17% Native Hawaiian, and 2.04% from two or more races.
