Quay County is a county located in the United States of New Mexico. According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Quay County is home to 10155 inhabitants. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 8929, making it New Mexico's eighth smallest county. The county comprises an area of 2881.8 mi˛ (7463.83 square kilometre), of which, 2874.93 square miles (7446.03 square kilometre) of it is land and 6.87 square miles (17.79 square kilometre) of it is water, makes it the 23rd largest by total area in New Mexico. It is ranks ninth in the size of its inland waterways in New Mexico.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 10155 people, 4201 households, and 2845 families residing in the county. The population density was 3.5 people per square mile (1.35/km˛), making it the tenth least densely populated county in New Mexico. There were 5664 housing units at an average density of 2 per square mile (0.77/km˛). The average household size was 2.37 people, and the average family size was 2.9 people. In the county Age distribution was 25% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 23.3% from 25 to 44, 26% from 45 to 64, and 19% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 106.4 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 109.2 females. In July 2008, its estimated population was 8929, The racial makeup of the county was 8371 White, 113 Black or African American, 186 American Indian, 114 Asian, 26 Native Hawaiian, and 119 from two or more races.
