Putnam County is a one of the county from Ohio's 88 counties, located in Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 34726 inhabitants. The July 2008 population estimate is 34543, making it the 20th least populous county in Ohio. It is spread over 484.23 square miles (1254.15 sq km), of which, 483.87 square miles (1253.22 sq km ) of it is land and 0.36 square miles (0.93 sq km) of it is water, making it the 36th largest by size in Ohio.

In the county the population was distributed as follows: 29.7% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 28.1% from 25 to 44, 20.6% from 45 to 64, and 13.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 98.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97 males. The July 2008 population estimate is 34543, The racial makeup of the county was 98.7% White, 0.44% Black or African American, 0.18% American Indian, 0.21% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 0.46% from two or more races.
