Purvis City, Lamar County, Mississippi is a city located in the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. The population of the city was 2164 as per the 2000 census data. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 2647, It is the 116th largest by population in the U.S. state of Mississippi. The city encompasses an area of 3.94 sq mi (10.2 kmē ), of which, 3.93 square miles (10.18 kmē) of it is land and 0.01 square miles (0.03 kmē) of it is water, it is the 127th largest by area in the U.S. state of Mississippi.

As of the census of 2000, there were 2164 residents, 786 households, and 578 families in the city. The population density was 551 people per square mile (212.74/kmē), it is Mississippi's 168th most densely populated city. There were 844 housing units at an average density of 214.8 per square mile (82.93/kmē). The average household size was 2.67 and the average family size was 3.16. In the city the population was distributed as follows: 27.6% under the age of 18, 10.2% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 21.9% from 45 to 64, and 13.1% who were 65 or older.
