Prowers County is one of the 63 county of Colorado, located towards the Western Region (Mountain) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 14483 inhabitants. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 13116, It is Colorado's 35th most populous county. The county encompasses an area of 1644.35 square miles (4258.85 sq km ), of which, 1640.38 square miles (4248.56 sq km) of it is land and 3.97 square miles (10.28 sq km) of it is water, it is the 28th largest in terms of geographical size.

As of the census of 2000, there were 14483 people, 5307 households, and 3728 families residing in the county. The population density was 8.8 people per square mile (3.4/kmē), it is the 32nd most populated county in terms of population density. There were 5977 housing units at an average density of 3.6 per square mile (1.39/kmē). The average household size was 2.67 and the average family size was 3.21. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 30% under the age of 18, 10.7% from 18 to 24, 26.5% from 25 to 44, 20.2% from 45 to 64, and 12.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 101 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.7 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 13116, The racial makeup of the county was 95.68% White, 0.5% Black or African American, 1.92% American Indian, 0.67% Asian, 0.1% Native Hawaiian, and 1.13% from two or more races.
