Prince Edward County is a county located in the United States of Virginia. According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Prince Edward County is home to 19720 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 21823, It is the 77th most populous county in the U.S. state of Virginia. The county comprises an area of 353.85 square miles (916.47 square kilometre), of which, 352.76 square miles (913.64 square kilometre) of it is land and 1.09 square miles (2.82 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 58th largest by area in the U.S. state of Virginia.

In the county Age distribution was 20.2% under the age of 18, 23.5% from 18 to 24, 22.5% from 25 to 44, 19.6% from 45 to 64, and 14.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 104.5 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 107.3 females. The July 2008 population estimate is 21823, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 63.61% White, 34.23% Black or African American, 0.19% American Indian, 0.74% Asian, 0.12% Native Hawaiian, and 1.11% from two or more races.
