Presque Isle County is one of the 83 county of Michigan, located towards the Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. It is home to over 14411 people (2000 census). Its population was estimated at 13650 in July 2008, It is 13th least populous county in Michigan. It is spread over 2572.75 sq mi (6663.39 sq km), of which, 660.07 square miles (1709.57 sq km ) of it is land and 1912.68 square miles (4953.82 sq km) of it is water, making it the sixth largest by size in Michigan. It is ranks fifth in the size of its inland waterways in Michigan.

As of the census of 2000, there were 14411 residents, 6155 households, and 4201 families in the county. The population density was 21.8 people per square mile (8.42/kmē), it is the 14th least densely populated county in the U.S. state of Michigan. There were 9910 housing units at an average density of 15 per square mile (5.79/kmē). The average household size was 2.31 people, and the average family size was 2.8 people. In the Presque Isle County, 20.9% of the population was under the age of 18, 6.5% were 18 to 24, 22.4% were 25 to 44, 27.8% were 45 to 64, and 22.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 99.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.1 males. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 13650, The racial makeup of the county was 97.73% White, 0.5% Black or African American, 0.68% American Indian, 0.24% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 0.84% from two or more races.
