According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1742.56 sq mi (4513.21 kmē), of which, 1736.55 square miles (4497.64 kmē) of it is land and 6 square miles (15.54 kmē) of it is water, it is the 18th smallest in terms of geographical size.
