Prairie County, Montana is a county of the United States of Montana. The population of county in 2000 stood at 1199 as per the Census data. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 1064, making it Montana's fourth smallest county. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1742.56 sq mi (4513.21 kmē), of which, 1736.55 square miles (4497.64 kmē) of it is land and 6 square miles (15.54 kmē) of it is water, it is the 18th smallest in terms of geographical size.


As of the census of 2000, there were 1199 people in the county, organized into 537 households, and 355 families residing in the county. The population density was 0.7 people per square mile (0.27/kmē), it is the sixth least densely populated county in the U.S. state of Montana.
