Potter County is a United States county located in the United States of South Dakota. Potter County had an official population of 2693 in 2000. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 2123, It is the ninth smallest county by population in the U.S. state of South Dakota. The county comprises an area of 898.43 square miles (2326.92 square kilometre), of which, 866.49 square miles (2244.2 square kilometre) of it is land and 31.94 square miles (82.72 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 34th largest by area in the U.S. state of South Dakota.

For every 100 females there were 96.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.8 males.
