Potter County is a county in the United States of Pennsylvania. In 2000, county's population was 18080 inhabitants. In July 2008, its estimated population was 16720, It is the fifth least populous county in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. It has total area of 1081.42 sq mi (2800.86 kmē), of which, 1081.17 square miles (2800.22 kmē) of it is land and 0.25 square miles (0.65 kmē) of it is water, making it the seventh largest by size in Pennsylvania.

As of the census of 2000, there were 18080 people, 7005 households, and 4999 families living in the county. The population density was 16.7 people per square mile (6.45/kmē), it is the fourth least densely populated county in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. There were 12159 housing units at an average density of 11.2 per square mile (4.32/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.54 persons, and the average family size was 3.02 persons. In the county Age distribution was 26% under the age of 18, 6.9% from 18 to 24, 26.1% from 25 to 44, 24.3% from 45 to 64, and 16.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 97.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.8 males. The July 2008 population estimate is 16720, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 97.51% White, 0.79% Black or African American, 0.28% American Indian, 0.61% Asian, 0.03% Native Hawaiian, and 0.78% from two or more races.
