Posey County, Indiana is a county located in the Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. In 2000, the population was 27061. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 26079, It is the 60th largest county by population in the U.S. state of Indiana. Its area is just over 419.45 sq mi (1086.37 sq km), of which, 408.5 square miles (1058.01 sq km) of it is land and 10.95 square miles (28.36 sq km) of it is water, giving it the 31st largest by total area among Indiana's county. It is ranks seventh in the size of its inland waterways in Indiana.

In the county the population was spread out, with 27.3% under the age of 18, 7.4% from 18 to 24, 29% from 25 to 44, 23.9% from 45 to 64, and 12.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 100.9 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 103.8 females. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 26079, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 25438 White, 318 Black or African American, 75 American Indian, 75 Asian, 1 Native Hawaiian, and 172 from two or more races.
