Porter County, Indiana is a county of the United States of Indiana. Porter County had an official population of 146798 in 2000. In July 2008, its estimated population was 162181, making it Indiana's ninth largest county. It has total area of 521.61 square miles (1350.96 kmē), of which, 418.11 square miles (1082.9 kmē) of it is land and 103.5 square miles (268.06 kmē) of it is water, giving it the eighth largest by total area among Indiana's county. It is ranks second in the size of its inland waterways in Indiana.

As of the census of 2000, there were 146798 people in the county, organized into 54649 households, and 39709 families living in the county. The population density was 351.1 people per square mile (135.56/kmē), it is tenth most densely populated county in Indiana. There were 57616 housing units at an average density of 137.8 per square mile (53.2/kmē). The average household size was 2.62 people, and the average family size was 3.08 people. Age range in the county was well distributed with 25.8% under the age of 18, 9.8% from 18 to 24, 28.9% from 25 to 44, 24.6% from 45 to 64, and 10.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.9 males. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 162181, The racial makeup of the county was 153134 White, 5064 Black or African American, 413 American Indian, 1738 Asian, 44 Native Hawaiian, and 1788 from two or more races.
