Portales City is one of the city of Roosevelt County, New Mexico, located towards the Western Region (Mountain) of United States. According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Portales City is home to 11131 inhabitants. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 12215, giving it the 18th largest population among New Mexico. The city has a total area of 6.85 mi˛ (17.74 sq km), giving it the 80th largest by total area among New Mexico.
