Pontotoc County, Oklahoma is a county of the United States of Oklahoma. In 2000, the population was 35143. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 36999, making it the 28th most populous county in Oklahoma. It is spread over 725.45 square miles (1878.91 sq km), of which, 719.64 square miles (1863.86 sq km ) of it is land and 5.82 square miles (15.07 sq km) of it is water, it is the 50th largest in terms of geographical size.

The population density was 48.8 people per square mile (18.84/kmē), giving it the 23rd most densely populated county among the Oklahoma. There were 15575 housing units at an average density of 21.6 per square mile (8.34/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.44 persons, and the average family size was 2.98 persons. In the county Age distribution was 24.7% under the age of 18, 12.5% from 18 to 24, 26% from 25 to 44, 21.9% from 45 to 64, and 15% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 93.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.6 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 36999, The racial makeup of the county was 27679 White, 911 Black or African American, 6107 American Indian, 251 Asian, 8 Native Hawaiian, and 2043 from two or more races.
