As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 29004, It is the 31st largest in terms of population. It is spread over 500.99 square miles (1297.56 sq km), of which, 497.35 square miles (1288.13 sq km ) of it is land and 3.64 square miles (9.43 sq km) of it is water, making it the 51st largest by size in Mississippi.
