Polk County is a county located in Wisconsin, in the Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. The population of the county was 41319 as per the 2000 census data. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 44270, It is 31st most populous county in Wisconsin. It is spread over 956.28 mi˛ (2476.75 sq km), of which, 917.27 square miles (2375.72 sq km ) of it is land and 39.01 square miles (101.04 sq km) of it is water, making it the 24th largest by size in Wisconsin.

The population density was 45 people per square mile (17.37/km˛), it is 38th most densely populated county in Wisconsin. There were 21129 housing units at an average density of 23 per square mile (8.88/km˛). It has an average household size was 2.51 persons, and the average family size was 3.01 persons. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 26.2% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 27.7% from 25 to 44, 24.3% from 45 to 64, and 15.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 99.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.5 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 44270, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 97.34% White, 0.42% Black or African American, 1.11% American Indian, 0.28% Asian, 0.03% Native Hawaiian, and 0.82% from two or more races.
